Dance Moms Stars Nia and Holly Frazier Join AfterBuzz TV

Nia and Holly Frazier, stars of Lifetime’s Dance Moms, joined AfterBuzz TV hosts Lexie Hammesfahr, Candice Camacho, Francisco Thurston and Tony Moore to discuss part one of the series’ season finale.

The show might be more aptly titled “Dance Drama.” The fan favorite, and highly respected, mother-daughter duo, Nia and Holly Frazier, discussed the necessity of remaining positive and respectful in a high intensity environment. “I think as an educator and also as a mother, I want my children, Nia, my daughter, to see that there are different ways that you can resolve conflict,” Dr. Holly says. “Just because you are quiet, just because you are someone who tries to be a team player does not mean you’re a doormat.

When you see something that’s wrong, you can’t just sit by and do nothing. You have to speak up…It’s not just about Nia. It’s about all of the girls.” She continues, “It’s not about jealousy, it’s about justice. And when I see an injustice, I feel like I have to speak up…If you’re willing to say, do, act a certain way, I will hold you accountable to that.”

Episode 30, “Here We Come Hollywood, Part 1,” reveals Nia’s hip-hop side during a dance battle with the Candy Apples Dance Center in Los Angeles. “I didn’t know I could do that. I’ve really never danced like that in my entire life and it was just fun being competitive but still having fun at the same time,” she says. “We don’t do a lot of hip-hop or improv at our studio so it’s really nice to have that experience.”

On standing up for herself against dance instructor Abby Lee Miller, Nia says that it is sometimes nerve wracking because Abby will tell her that she is talking back. “It’s like, I wasn’t talking back. I was just having a voice and not getting stomped on by you because I’m much more powerful than that.” She continues, “I do get what Abby says to some extent. She pushes us so hard that some things you just need to block out…I try my best.”

Nia has a message for her fans: “I wanted to say that I love all my fans and I just want them all to be on team Nia.” Nia will also be releasing an iPhone app, Nia Nation, in the near future. “I’m really excited because more people can see what my life is like without actually going on Instagram.” She will also be featured in more Sharkcookie photo shoots. “I’m so excited for everything that’s happening for me. I’ve come so far and I just hope everybody follows me.”

Dance Moms airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on Lifetime.

Hollywood, Here She Comes: Marietta Native Packs Up, Heads to L.A. to be Entertainment Host on Television

Lexie Hammesfahr loves the entertainment business. The Marietta resident who graduated Saturday from Southern Methodist University is headed to Los Angeles to pursue a career as an entertainment host. “The entertainment industry has always fascinated me. It’s been a passion for me my entire life,” said Hammesfahr, who majored in convergence journalism with a focus on broadcast. When her maternal grandmother, Joan Adams, died in 2006, Hammesfahr turned to television entertainment. “(Television) helped keep my mind off things, helped me get through the loss of her. She was my best friend,” said Hammesfahr, a 2010 Marietta High School graduate. She is the daughter of Jodie and Rick Hammesfahr. The optimistic qualities of entertainment appeal to her. “Entertainment is the one source of news that, for the most part, is positive and upbeat. It’s a nice break for people to have from all the negative things going on in our society today. I want to contribute to something that will keep people’s minds off whatever stress they have in their lives,” she said. Last summer, Hammesfahr interned for Entertainment Tonight. Chosen from a field of interns, she assisted a senior producer in charge of award shows and film festivals. Hammesfahr was charged with creating the interview schedule for ET at Comic-Con, an annual entertainment and comic convention in San Diego. “Because I knew the schedule so well, (the producer) asked me to go down and work,” said Hammesfahr, who worked side-by-side with celebrities during the ET interviews. She also attended the highly coveted after party, rubbing elbows with stars such as Julia Roberts, Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Ben Affleck and Sara Gilbert. Read more at: Marietta Daily Journal

As Ayen and I headed down Mockingbird Lane towards Dallas Love Field Airport, dozens of police cars lined the street, waiting to block traffic for when President Obama’s motorcade headed to his fundraising event tonight. People lined the streets with cameras, hoping to get a perfect shot of Air Force One flying overhead.

We pulled into the Southwest Airlines Headquarters on Denton Road where a security guard greeted us. SMU student journalists Lexie Hammesfahr and Ayen Bior talk about their trip to Dallas Love Field where they were on hand to catch Air Force One landing.

We’re with the media,” I said as I handed him the confirmation letters from the Communications department. “Thank you and please proceed to security to retrieve your press badges,” the guard said. We thought it was going to be a simple process.

As we walked towards the entrance to the headquarters, video equipment in tow, people began to gather outside with cameras and cell phones waiting for the arrival of the President.

Getting access into the building was a feat in itself. The doors were keycard access only, so using the black phone on the wall was our only option.
